Reapportionment
The U.S. Constitution requires that congressional, state and local legislative district boundaries be redrawn every ten years, reflecting population shifts revealed by the federal census. In our state, the NY State Legislature through the joint Legislative Task Force on Demographic Research and Reapportionment is charged with the responsibility of redrawing district lines for the State Assembly, State Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. After the 2000 census, most of the City of North Tonawanda was added to the 140th Assembly District, combining all of the Tonawandas into one legislative district, beginning with the 2002 election. |
